AS SISTERS WORKING IN A TOUGH INDUSTRY, HOW DO YOU STAY MOTIVATED? 

“We have always believed that we have to be grateful for all we have achieved in our business, which is why we decided to work as volunteers with medical missions – such as Ayaviri & Puno Perú. The main reason we created “Cotton Heart,” and the handmade dolls, was to support single moms and distressed women, as well as elderly women who work from home.”

WHAT ARE THE CORE VALUES WITHIN THE PERUVIAN COMMUNITY THAT YOU’RE PROUD OF?

“The Peruvian Community is resilient by heart. We have overcome many problems and we combat these hardships by supporting and educating our communities every time. The Peruvian Community, especially locals that reside in the mountains, maintain the same old traditions and values which have been embedded in the Peruvian culture over several decades.“

WHO MAKES THE SHIRTS AND WHAT IS THE PRODUCTION PROCESS?

“All shirts are made in our production facilities where we believe our staff of women works in the best conditions. Our workshop hire only women that are single moms, moms, and elder women or those that need a job. Occasionally we work with other outside small production units, approved previously and supervised by us - these units are in different parts of Lima, Peru.” The production process goes like this:

  1. The knitting of the fabric, follow the quality control of the fabric.
  2. Cut of garments, quality control of cut. 
  3. Garments manufacturing.
  4. Garments Quality Audit.
  5. Garment printing.
  6. Printing audit.
  7. Garment packaging (vaporized, hangtag).
  8. Pack the garments in the Master Box.

WHAT IMPACT CAN FASHION HAVE ON BUILDING AWARENESS FOR WORLDWIDE SOCIAL ISSUES? 

“Fashion in today’s world is an essential vessel for communicating expressively; the industry also now has a responsibility to create awareness and educate the public about a whole range of social issues. This will hopefully positively impact working conditions, as well as environmental issues with the end goal of encouraging more sustainable consumption patterns.”
